WORKING OUT WITH ALLERGIES
If you leave the gym feeling worse than when you arrived, you may have fallen prey to allergens that are present there. First, consider what you wear to work out. If you are sensitive to synthetics, your workout clothing may be irritating to your skin. Mats used for floor exercises are generally made from latex, a potential allergen. Cleaning products used to sanitize the mats can be irritating. Disinfectant sprays and wipes used to keep the gym environment germ-free may contain chemicals that cause a reaction. The gym pool may be heavily chlorinated, triggering allergy symptoms and asthma attacks. Energy bars and other snacks sold at the gym may contain ingredients dangerous to those with certain food allergies.
P.S. If you have itchy eyes and skin from using the gym pool, try showering immediately after your swim.
