SUMMER BUMMER

For those with seasonal allergies, hot weather brings its own challenges. Proteins, similar to those found in tree and grass pollens, can be found in vegetables and fruits that abound during the summer. A delicious fruit salad may be less than delightful if it triggers allergic reactions. Avoiding seasonal produce that can cause allergic reactions is the best solution. Being outdoors also increases contact with stinging insects including bees, wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets. Gardening, sunbathing, or eating outdoors can result in insect bites that can be debilitating and sometimes life-threatening to someone with allergies. If you suspect that you have allergies, see your allergist to be tested so that your allergies can be identified and protection can be prescribed.

P.S. Anyone with allergic reactions to insect bites should take care when opening and drinking from soft drink cans outdoors since sugary drinks attract stinging insects.
