SENDING YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WITH ASTHMA
Sending their child off to school can be difficult for many parents, but for parents of children with medical conditions, it can be much more complicated. Because asthma is a condition that can become problematic at any time, it is important that children learn to handle their condition as well as possible before starting school. This includes not only knowing how and when to take their medication, but also what can trigger an attack and what to do when one occurs. You can help by visiting your child’s classrooms to identify any environmental triggers and work with the school to reduce as many issues as you can. The school may also have specific protocols for students with asthma.
P.S. If your school-age child has asthma, it is important to ensure that the school nurse has up-to- date backups of all your child’s medications.
