PREVENTING HOUSEHOLD MOLD

Indoor mold can damage your living space and your lungs and may also cause allergies and exacerbate asthma. Mold spreads through spores that attach themselves to moisture, so keeping your home moisture free is the best way to prevent indoor mold. Interior humidity levels should be limited to 60% or lower. Kitchens and bathrooms are common areas of increased moisture levels, so these areas should be well-ventilated and cleaned often. Regular HVAC maintenance will help keep indoor air clean and dry. Crawlspaces and attics are common areas of mold-producing moisture, so keep an intentional eye on these lesser-seen areas. If your home is prone to higher moisture levels, consider running a dehumidifier during wet seasons.

P.S. It doesn’t always take a mold allergy to cause mold-induced symptoms, which can include irritated skin, eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. People with serious mold allergies may also experience sneezing, a runny nose, and shortness of breath.
