ORAL ALLERGY SYNDROME
Oral allergy syndrome (OAS ) is a common food-related allergic condition that develops in adults. It is connected to environmental allergies, such as hay fever. OAS is triggered by certain fresh fruits, nuts, and vegetables, and those with the condition will experience a reaction in their mouth and throat, such as swollen lips or a tingling tongue. Proteins in these foods are similar to pollen in structure, and the body simply confuses the food protein for a pollen one. Food triggers vary from person to person, but common ones include cherries, apples, peaches, bell peppers, carrots, and almonds. Allergic reactions generally are not severe and symptoms tend to be worse during times of the year when pollen levels are high.
P.S. Oral allergy syndrome is usually milder than more systemic nut allergies, which can be fatal.
