OFF THE WALLS
Redecorating may be hazardous to your health. Paint contains synthetic resins and solvents that can lead to allergic reactions such as headaches and itchy eyes. Oil-based paint is the most threatening type; even after drying, it continues to release chemicals. The “usual suspect” is the key ingredient—volatile oil. During colder months when buildings are closed up, the threat becomes more imminent and profound. When painting in an enclosed environment, it is important to have as much ventilation as possible. Wear a mask especially made for the task. Specially fabricated with activated carbon cloth, the mask will help stop the infiltration of allergens that would otherwise be inhaled. Should you have an extreme reaction to paint, see your medical professional.
HINT: Some painting jobs require wearing respirators with special filters.
