INTERMITTENT ASTHMA

Asthma is a chronic disease that inflames and narrows the airways of the lungs.  Not all asthma is the same.  Allergists diagnose the type of asthma that a person has based on the symptoms and the frequency of their occurrence.  The mildest form of asthma is called intermittent asthma, because the symptoms occur about twice a week or less and require only infrequent use of a rescue inhaler.  However, even mild asthma is not completely risk free.  Symptoms can still escalate into a full-blown asthma attack.  It is important to have any asthma symptoms evaluated by a medical professional so that an effective treatment plan can be put in place to control the symptoms and limit their recurrence.

P.S.  If asthma is well controlled, patients may not experience any symptoms; however, that does not mean that the disease has been “cured.”
