FIGHTING ALLERGIES WITH IMMUNOTHERAPY

Immunotherapy is an allergy treatment that can train your body to become less allergic. An allergen is a substance that your immune system recognizes as foreign and dangerous. Immunotherapy intentionally exposes a person to an allergen to create a tolerance to it. Training the body to accept an allergen can help avoid severe allergic reactions and even allow a person to overcome an allergy. The exposure begins in small amounts that are slowly and periodically increased as the tolerance develops. The immune system is always changing, so people with allergies can trigger a change with immunotherapy (and sometimes through unintentional exposure). Likewise, a person can also develop an allergy if an allergen they are regularly exposed to is removed.

P.S. Having a pet in your home at an early age can reduce the risk of developing asthma or animal dander allergies through regular exposure that improves the immune system.
