ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Many allergy sufferers have indicated that they are currently experiencing worse allergy symptoms than in prior years.  Their increases in nasal discharge, throat tenderness, itchy eyes, and sneezing episodes may be related to environmental changes.  For example, wildfires in the western part of the United States added large quantities of smoke and ash particles to the air that irritated sensitive airways.  Higher than normal temperatures in the Pacific Northwest and Northeast led to longer pollen seasons and increased airborne pollen circulation.  Mineral-laden dust from the Sahara Desert in North Africa was transported by winds across the Mediterranean to Florida and other areas of the Southeast.  Indeed, 2021 is presenting allergy patients with additional environmental challenges.

P.S.   An allergist can prescribe medications and suggest ways to cope with increased airborne allergens.
