DRUG ALLERGY SYMPTOMS

Your body’s immune system will accept some foreign substances and reject others. Your body may develop a drug allergy when it senses an unknown substance (a medication) in your system and reacts with an immune response, which is designed to protect your body from the foreign invader. While reactions can occur in any part of your body, the most common symptoms of a drug allergy are skin based (a rash, itching, and/or hives) and bronchial (coughing, sneezing, congestion, and/or mouth and throat swelling). In rare cases, anaphylaxis can occur, a life-threatening allergic reaction in which the airways swell and severely restrict breathing. Other less common symptoms of a drug allergy may be dizziness and an upset stomach or nausea.

P.S. A drug’s potential side effects, which are expected, are not the same as a drug allergy, which is unexpected.
