ASTHMATIC COUGH
Asthmatic cough is a chronic condition for many people with asthma. Annoying as coughing can be, it serves a purpose. Productive coughs bring up phlegm that holds foreign particles and bacteria that can be harmful to the lungs and cause infections. An asthmatic cough can do the same; however, most asthmatic coughs are non-productive, dry coughs that happen when irritants cause the bronchial tubes to spasm. Long-term oral medications such as leukotriene modifiers may relieve asthmatic cough, although quick-relief inhalers with short-acting beta-antagonists are more commonly prescribed since asthmatic cough symptoms usually abate when asthma symptoms are relieved. Symptoms like chest pains, coughing up blood, and weakness are not part of asthmatic cough and should be treated separately.
P.S. Asthmatic cough can greatly affect sleep, which can lead to many other health problems.
