ALLERGIC TO CONVERSATION

If you experience a rash in the ear, cheek, and jaw area after chatting on your cell phone, you may be reacting to the metal that is used to build it. Nickel is commonly used in the creation of cell phones, and prolonged exposure to that metal can result in a form of dermatitis. It may manifest itself with symptoms including an itchy rash on the face and soreness or blistering of the fingertips of those who do lots of texting. If you are experiencing this sort of response, your allergist can suggest a cream that you can apply to the affected areas. Beyond that, phone covers offer a protective barrier, and a hands-free device could also be a solution.

P.S.  Nickel is typically found in eyeglass frames and fashion jewelry.
