ALLERGIC ASTHMA
The same allergens that give some people sneezing fits and watery eyes can cause asthma attacks in others. Allergic asthma is the most common type of asthma. Because allergens are everywhere, people with allergic asthma need to know what may trigger their asthma to prevent an attack. Common causes include pollen, mold spores, animal dander, and dust mites. Taking steps to control allergens will likely improve symptoms, but some individuals may still need allergy and asthma medication. Symptoms of allergic asthma include wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. Many good asthma medications are available, such as inhaled steroids, which fight inflammation, and bronchodilators, which open airways. It’s essential to see an allergist if allergens are triggering asthma attacks.
P.S. Regardless of what causes the symptoms, an allergist is best equipped to diagnose asthma.
