HOW CAN BUTTERBUR HELP MY ALLERGIES?

Butterbur is a marsh-growing plant with a long history of medicinal applications. While butterbur is still being studied as an allergy treatment, research suggests that the plant is effective in treating nasal allergies. One study showed that the plant significantly improved allergy symptoms in humans after one week by lowering levels of the allergy-producing chemicals histamine and leukotriene, which are responsible for triggering allergic reactions. Be aware that unprocessed butterbur contains chemicals called pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) that can cause liver damage and other diseases. However, the National Institute of Health says that processed, PA-free butterbur products are safe and effective. Butterbur supplements should always be taken under the recommendation and supervision of a doctor.

P.S. Butterbur is a plant in the daisy family that may cause side effects in people with plant allergies. Avoid using butterbur if you are allergic to any plants in the daisy family.
