EOSINOPHILIC ASTHMA
Eosinophilic asthma (EA) is a rare type of severe asthma affecting about five percent of adults suffering from asthma. White blood cells (called eosinophils) are elevated in people with EA, causing swelling and inflammation in the respiratory system and airways. The higher the white blood cell count, the more severe the EA symptoms are. People with EA exhibit common asthma symptoms, especially coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, nasal polyps (noncancerous growths on the lining of nasal tissues), and chronic sinus infection symptoms like a stuffy nose and nasal drainage. If you have these symptoms, have been diagnosed with asthma, and your asthma treatments have not been effective, you may be suffering from an uncommon form of asthma such as EA.
P.S. The symptoms of eosinophilic asthma sometimes resemble those of chronic pulmonary obstructive disorder (a group of progressive lung diseases).
