COMMON FOOD ALLERGIES
Although nearly any food can trigger an allergic response, only a handful cause the majority of reactions. Egg, soybean, and wheat allergies are among the most common food allergies in children. Tree nut allergies are common in both children and adults and can include walnuts, almonds, and pistachios. Allergy to peanuts is also common, but peanuts are not the same as a tree nut. Shellfish allergies, also common and usually lifelong, are divided into two groups, crustacea and mollusks. An allergy to fish is generally lifelong, too, with salmon and tuna being the most common. However, being allergic to one does not necessarily mean both must be avoided. Check with your allergist if you think you may have an issue.
P.S. Most children who are allergic to eggs and wheat eventually outgrow their allergy.
