CHILDHOOD ASTHMA & SPORTS
Physical education and sports are a big part life for many children. If your child has been diagnosed with a severe allergy or asthma, it doesn’t mean eliminating these activities. Children with asthma and other allergic diseases should participate in any sport they choose, provided their condition is managed correctly and under control. In particular, kids must take their medication as prescribed before exercising, and always keep triggers in mind. Tell the coach about your child’s asthma and share a copy of his or her action plan. Most importantly, your child and coach both need to recognize when your child should take a break from a practice or game to manage a flare-up before it becomes an emergency.
P.S. Being active and playing sports can help kids with asthma stay fit and maintain a healthy weight.
