A RARE FORM OF ASTHMA
Asthma comes in different forms and can affect more than just the lungs. “Eosinophilic asthma” (EA) is a rare, but severe forms of the condition cause an increase in the levels of white blood cells that the body produces. Normally, white blood cells are the body’s defense mechanism, fighting infections and bacteria, but for people with EA, they also create inflammation in the respiratory system and swelling in the airways. EA causes shortness of breath, wheezing, and tightness in the chest, as well as chronic sinus infection symptoms such as runny nose, nasal congestion, and a limited ability to smell. Traditional asthma treatment of corticosteroid inhalers don’t always work well for people with EA and other solutions must be found.
P.S. Eosinophilic asthma can cause chronic inner ear infections, nasal polyps, and a condition called aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease.
