A Catty Response
Any feline can be the cause of an allergic reaction. Generally, a protein that is found in a cat’s sebum is the cause of the reaction. Sebum is what promotes the healthy coat and skin on a cat. When the cat’s sebum dries, it flakes off and can attach itself to any surface or be transported to any number of locations. If you suspect that you are allergic to your cat, first check to be sure that it’s not the cat’s litter or shampoo that is causing the reactions. If it is the cat, consider immunotherapy, such as allergy shots. Beyond that, vacuuming with a HEPA filter and keeping the cat out of the bedroom may help.
P.S. Wash your hands and avoid rubbing your eyes after petting your cat to avoid experiencing itchy eyes.
