BEING NOSY

The corticosteroids that are used to treat nasal allergy symptoms are different from the anabolic steroids that are used to enhance muscle development. Allergists often prescribe corticosteroid nasal sprays or drops to patients whose allergies cause inflammation and congestion in the nose.  These medications are sprayed or dripped directly into the nasal passages to relieve swelling and restore normal breathing patterns.  Unlike many of the over-the-counter nasal products, these medications are neither addictive nor quick-acting.  Prescription nasal corticosteroids may have to be used daily for as much as three weeks before their maximum benefit is achieved.  Since medications are not taken systemically, side effects tend to be limited to mild irritation of the nose or throat.

HINT:  Nasal products containing corticosteroids may be prescribed in conjunction with allergy pills or injections.
