BECOMING AWARE

Warm, humid weather and higher pollen counts contribute to more severe asthma and allergy symptoms, causing asthmatics to experience more coughing, wheezing, labored breathing, or chest tightness.  Allergy sufferers may develop itchier eyes, more skin rashes, or runnier noses.  The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) focuses their educational materials on increasing public awareness of asthma and allergy triggers.  The goal is to help people recognize their own changing physical responses to certain environmental allergens.  By being aware of physical symptoms, sufferers can avoid any known allergens or seek medical advice when symptoms are out of control.  Early intervention helps patients manage their conditions better and allows sufferers to live more active lives.

P.S.  Helpful information about asthma and allergies is available for patients and caregivers on the web at aafa.org.
