IMPROVING INDOOR AIR

When the weather becomes humid and the pollen counts rise, people with allergies and allergic asthma may experience difficulty breathing.  Outdoor air usually causes the most problems by inflaming airways with allergens, but air within the home can also be a problem.  Allergists often suggest using air conditioning to help control indoor humidity and pollen.  Many homes are equipped with whole-house air conditioning systems.  These are most effective when the filters are replaced regularly and the system is serviced annually.  Homes without air conditioning systems can improve indoor air quality with room air conditioners.  These units provide the most benefit in bedrooms and family rooms.  For maximum effectiveness, the filter in each unit must be cleaned frequently.

P.S.  Most filters are helpful for removing pollen, mold spores, and animal dander from the air. Filters do not remove dust mites because they are heavy and fall to the floor.
