EXTENDED EFFECTS

There are many effects of allergies that extend beyond sneezing, watery eyes, and runny noses.  These localized symptoms are irritating in themselves, but they can also interfere with other important physical requirements.  Nasal congestion often interrupts sleep.  Inadequate rest can lead to daytime drowsiness, irritability, and debilitating fatigue.  When the body is not properly rested, many cognitive activities are slower.  Concentration, decision making, and memory can be adversely affected.  Congestion can also cause blockage of the Eustachian tubes in the ears and limit hearing, making learning and conversation more difficult.  When allergy symptoms are severe enough to interfere with daily routines or quality of life, it is time to seek help from an allergist.

P.S.  Studies have shown that people who are suffering from allergies miss more days of school and work.  They also have more injuries and motor accidents.
