BLAME THE FLAME

For many people, burning scented candles causes allergic reactions. These may include headaches, dizziness, a runny nose, and sneezing. Skin reactions, such as hives, may also occur. The fragrances that are present in most candles are the usual culprits that trigger allergic responses. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has indicated that over 5,000 different fragrances and innumerable combinations of those fragrances are utilized in today’s popular fragranced candles. If you experience allergic reactions to certain fragranced candles, those made with soy rather than wax may make a difference. Candles made with essential oils may not cause the same reactions as those made with artificial fragrances. A single-scented candle may be more tolerable than one with multiple scents.

P.S. Candles should always be burned in well-ventilated areas.
