ROAD TRIP!

When you go on vacation, your allergies unfortunately travel with you.  The secrets to minimizing allergens and enjoying vacation time revolve around good advanced planning.  Talk to your allergist about your travel plans to be sure that your prescriptions and immunizations are up-to-date.  If traveling long distances by car, have the air filters in the ventilating/air-conditioning system cleaned or changed.  Clean filters can trap more pollen and dust so that the air circulating inside the vehicle contains fewer allergens.  When staying at hotels or motels, always ask for rooms that are allergy-friendly.  Most facilities offer non-smoking and pet-free accommodations.  If down feathers are a problem, you can also request rooms that feature down-alternative pillows and comforters.

P.S.  Before going on vacation, check pollen forecasts for the areas of planned travel.  Be sure to pack enough medication to manage all allergy symptoms.
