ARE YOU NUTS?

Peanuts and tree nuts are not the same.  Peanuts grow under the ground and are actually legumes.  People who have a peanut allergy often find that they also have a hypersensitivity to nuts that grow on trees such as almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, pecans, and walnuts.  Ingesting any of these or other nuts may result in mild to severe physical allergic reactions.  Once a peanut or tree nut allergy has been confirmed by an allergist, avoiding nuts and products containing nuts is essential.  It is easy to recognize nuts in trail mix, granola, and nut butters, but many pastries, candies, puddings, and high-energy bars also contain nuts.  Be sure to read all the ingredients listed on packaging before ingesting the product.

P.S.  Be aware that products that do not contain peanuts or tree nuts can get contaminated if they are made using the same equipment that was used to manufacture nut products.
